One day I went to visit my aunt. She was in the kitchen putting some vinegar into a tumbler which she then filled up with water. What on earth was she doing drinking vinegar? It sounded like an awful drink until she explained.

Here are top 10 reasons to use Raw Apple Cider Vinegar for your health. (However, don’t use anything but “Raw apple cider vinegar. Braggs is a great brand.)
1. Energy. Take 1 tablespoon, 2 times a day in 8 ounces to 16 ounces of water. This is especially helpful if you have a baby or little children… and you need the energy to keep up with them.
2. Bug bites. To take away the itching and the bites quickly, dab the bites with straight ACV or mix it with half water, half vinegar.
3. Slows down bleeding during menstrual cycle. To lessen the bleeding each period, take 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar in a glass of water… 2 times a day.
4. Cuts. Hippocrates used raw apple cider vinegar to treat cuts. It was helpful years ago and it is helpful now. It stops the bleeding rather quickly and heals cuts as well. Put a compress of straight ACV or mix it with half vinegar and half water. Does it sting? Yes, it typically does… just like any other treatment would. But it will only typically sting for a few seconds.
5. Shiny hair. Use apple cider vinegar after shampooing for a beautiful shine. Mix one half of a cup of ACV with one half of a cup of water… and then rinse the hair with this. Then rinse again to get it all out of the hair.
6. Fever. Put 1 cup of APPLE CIDER VINEGAR in the tub and soak in it for 10 to 20 minutes. If the fever is extra high, it is recommended to do this two times a day. This is the only thing that worked to bring my child’s fever down… on more than a few occasions.
7. Cysts. Dab ACV on the cyst for a few minutes (if the cyst is really big, a longer time is suggested… such as 10 minutes). Putting ACV on a bandaid … and applying a bandaid on the cyst all night … is often helpful.
8. Earache. Using ACV in the ear has shown to help an earache. Make a mixture of ½ tsp ACV and ½ tsp distilled water… and put a few drops in the ear.
9. Toothache. Swish the Vinegar in the mouth… especially the area where it is affected. Keep it in the mouth as long as possible. ACV has a very strong smell … so some people might not be able to do this… but if it is possible, it can be very helpful.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Folk Remedy Or Legitimate Health Aid?

Apple cider vinegar is an old folk remedy claimed to be beneficial in treating a long list of ailments. It is sold today by “health food” companies and others who claim it has remedial properties. Apple cider vinegar is a type of vinegar made by the fermentation of apple cider. Unlike white vinegar, apple cider vinegar is a light yellow-brown color and is often sold unfiltered and unpasteurized with a dark, cloudy sediment called mother of vinegar (consisting mainly of acetic acid bacteria) settled at the bottom of the bottle.
Over the centuries, vinegar has been used for countless purposes: making pickles, killing weeds, cleaning coffee makers, polishing armor, and dressing salads. While many of the folk medicine uses of vinegar are unproven (or were disproved), there is some medical research backing them up.
The main ingredient of apple cider vinegar, or any vinegar, is acetic acid. Apple cider vinegar is also said to contain an abundance of complex carbohydrates and dietary fiber. Do not use a metal container when making vinegar or storing it; acid in the mixture will corrode metal or aluminum objects making the solution unfit for consumption.
When it comes to losing weight, experts say you are what you drink. Apple cider vinegar has recently found new use as a weight loss and weight management aide, and has been included in many over the counter weight loss nutritional supplements. Anecdotally, ancient Egyptians used apple cider vinegar for weight loss. The acetic acid in this vinegar can curve the appetite which benefits those trying to loose weight and keep it off.
Some say apple cider vinegar can help arthritis, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, and assist in digestion. It is also thought to help the body maintain a healthy alkaline level. The acidic nature of this vinegar has been said to help scalp problems such as dandruff, itchy scalp, baldness and thinning hair. Apple cider vinegar can also help gastric problems as well.

The effect of vinegar on blood glucose levels is perhaps the best researched and the most promising of apple cider vinegar’s possible health benefits. Several studies have found that vinegar may help lower glucose levels. For example, a small study compared the effect of vinegar with white bread on blood glucose and insulin levels. Keeping blood sugar lower is important to diabetic patients which can help reduce the use of insulin. Subjects with type 2 diabetes showed a slight improvement in insulin sensitivity, but postprandial blood glucose and insulin levels were not affected when apple cider vinegar was added to a meal.
In conclusion, apple cider vinegar could theoretically interact with diuretics, laxatives, and medicines for diabetes and heart disease so you must be careful. Apple cider vinegar should always be diluted with water or juice before swallowed. If you have diabetes, check with your doctor before using apple cider vinegar. Furthermore, blood glucose must be monitored more frequently in patients with diabetes treated with insulin experiencing gastro paresis to prevent adverse hypoglycemic episodes. All those taking medications should consult a doctor because the acid in this vinegar can enhance absorption and increase Side effects.

An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Awayâ?? But What About Apple Cider Vinegar?

Open the newspapers on any morning and itâ??s not long before youâ??re confronted with the latest health scare. Whether itâ??s the continuing HRT debate, withdrawal of Vioxx from Arthritis sufferers or worries about the effectiveness of antibiotics we can often feel bombarded and confused. Increasingly, people are looking for natural alternatives to pharmaceutical products. Many are food items which we have used for years and have no known adverse side-effects. We are unlikely to read health scares about them as we peruse the morning papers. One such food is apple cider vinegar.

The powerful health and healing properties of apple cider vinegar have been known since biblical times. Indeed traces of the substance were found in Egyptian urns dating back 5,000 years. It is thought that the Egyptians used apple cider vinegar as an antiseptic and healing agent. References to it appear in the Bible.

Knowledge of the health giving properties of apple cider vinegar arrived in Britain about forty years ago. Dr Jarvis, a New England medic, reported the folk medicine of Vermont which emphasises the importance of keeping the body supplied with all the minerals it needs for optimum health. Dr Jarvis recommends two teaspoons each of apple cider vinegar and raw honey mixed with water, taken one or more times per day to replenish the minerals needed by the body. Dr Jarvis found this regime to be particularly beneficial to Arthritis sufferers and those seeking to lose weight. He went on to write â??Arthritis and Cider Vinegarâ?? which is sadly out of print.

So why is this foodstuff so beneficial to the body? Letâ??s start by considering the humble apple. Although familiar with the phrase â??An apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Awayâ??, most are unaware that the apple is one of Mother Natureâ??s most perfect foods. The apple provides a host of beneficial vitamins and minerals and when turned into cider vinegar this goodness is provided in a concentrated form. Although acidic, apple cider vinegar provides alkalising minerals which have the effect of alkalising the body.

A high acid environment is implicated in a myriad of conditions from arthritis and cardiovascular disease to chronic fatigue and it hinders any attempts at weight loss. Acidity in the body is caused by a combination of factors including high intake of meat, dairy products, alcohol and processed foods. A stressful lifestyle and lack of beneficial alkalising fruits and vegetables also contribute to the problem.

Over the years, many have experienced success using apple cider vinegar. Most notably in the UK is a lady called Margaret Hill. Trained as a nurse, at the age of 21 years Margaret was diagnosed with acute rheumatoid arthritis. By the time she was in her late 30s she was wheelchair bound and in excruciating pain. This was the late 1950s and conventional medicine was unable to help. Margaret, having read Dr Jarvisâ??s book, began following the apple cider vinegar and raw honey regime. This regime, coupled with a healthy diet, was instrumental in ridding Margaret of the pain she had been suffering for most of her adult life. Keen to share her knowledge with other arthritis sufferers, Margaret wrote â??Curing Arthritis the Drug-Free Wayâ?? and opened the â??Margaret Hills Clinicâ?? in Kenilworth, Warwickshire. Since opening, the clinic has helped thousands of people crippled with rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. Its regime is three pronged:

1. Three times per day, apple cider vinegar and honey in water

2. Acid free diet

3. Appropriate supplementation

Interestingly, Margaret found that most arthritic patients were also suffering from other ailments such as asthma, bronchitis, eczema, and diverticulitis. As they progressed with the regime, there was often a marked improvement in these additional ailments. Those patients who needed to lose weight found that the regime helped in achieving their weight loss goals. There is also evidence that apple cider vinegar acts as a natural probiotic, increasing levels of gut flora and aiding the digestive tract.

So how is apple cider vinegar made? Crushed whole apples are fermented to become cider. The cider is then fermented to become vinegar. There are a number of brands available but arguably the best is Aspallâ??s organic cyder vinegar still produced by the Chevallier-Guilds family after 8 generations. It can be found in most supermarkets and health food stores.

So is this the end of the apple cider vinegar story? Well no. As well as using apple cider vinegar internally it also has many other uses. Itâ??s an incredibly versatile and powerful household cleaning and deodorising agent which is free from dangerous chemicals. Try cleaning your windows with it and watch them sparkle! Itâ??s also good added to the final rinse when washing hair. The result is a lovely sheen.

So when the next health scare comes round â?? donâ??t panic! Remember the natural alternatives, like apple cider vinegar, and turn to the sports page.
